Yet, when one looks at planet Earth, we see global patterns in the manner in which the pandemic has spread and brought disaster, patterns that date back to the fifteenth century, patterns that are rooted in slavery and colonialism and, ultimately, in the construction of so-called race and racist oppression.

Within the Global North, there are stark divisions over who is able to get access to the vaccine and who is not, not to mention which populations are sickening and dying disproportionately-divisions that are particularly rooted in oppressions based on class, race, and nationality. It is not that people in the so-called Global North-Canada, the United States, the European Union, Japan-have been able to defy the pandemic and secure health.

The question of who has been able to obtain the vaccine and who has not who is able to produce the vaccine, and who is constrained by corporate patent restrictions. The study recommends that developing countries after decades of colonialism should stop blaming colonial masters for their developmental challenges and take serious the process of industrialisation, democratisation and development via capital formation while stemming the tide of culture and tradition being fastly eroded by the same unacknowledged modernisation theory.The Covid-19 pandemic has both illustrated and dramatized the ongoing North/South divide on planet Earth.

The study established that the theory, being one of the most controversial developmental theory, now needs to be more placed in multidisciplinary studies to play a balancing role in explaining the state of the world today since the relevance of modernisation theory in certain facets of today's living cannot be shrugged off. This study submitted that modernisation theory is still relevant on strides towards industrialisation and democratisation process not minding the sentiments that pre modern countries must hold on to the modern styles of her former colonial masters with no recognition of how the latter plunder the vast resources of the former in developing her own economy. Findings of the study revealed that most culture and tradition have been sacrificed for modernization on the path to development against what is seen in China. This study adopted archival research design and thematically reviewed literature on modernisation theory. It is against this background that this study investigates the influence of modernisation theory on culture, tradition, industrialization and democratic process. The inability of most African countries, decades after independence to attain industrialisation while yet grapple with underdevelopment calls for deeper cursory look.
